This is a great everyday reference book for the Urgent Care/Family Practice practitioner. I work part-time in an Ambulatory Care Clinic and it's been very useful for the "peripheral brain"-type information you need now and then. This book doesn't go into much detail, but it's good for a quick go-to for most illnesses. Great book for the price.

On the topic of ME (CFS) almost every statement was false or misleading. For example, evidence for the only two general treatments recommended, CBT and GET, is inconsistent at best and these interventions certainly have greatly increased morbidity in many cases. Clinicians are told to tell patients that most patients recover. Yet, recovery rates in studies are generally 4-8%. A high incidence of child abuse is cited, but the study relied upon (Heim) has been widely discredited (see journal articles by Prof. Leonard Jason).

I found this book to be excellent while studying during my 3rd year IM clerkship and 4th year IM subI. It was a quick, well organized, clinically focused reading that proved to be very valuable because I learned the essential points very fast and I did not waste my time going through endless pages of irrelevant material in the hopes of being able to extract the relevant information. I ended up doing very well on the shelf by combining this book and the MKSAP question book. I am sure I will continue to find this book very useful during internship.
